When Dinosaurs Roamed Madison Avenue

Sometimes I think the main point of Mad Men isn't so much the hidden identities, the multiple cover-ups, the nefarious backstabbings, and the various skullduggery-like dealings of the characters. Of course it is that, but it also showcases a time when seemingly glamorous activities like smoking and drinking could be pursued with abandon and with little fear of consequence. But as we can see from tonight's episode that era is teetering on the brink of extinction, presumably to be replaced by the 60's drug culture... even the mention of Marilyn Monroe's supposedly enviable problems just a few months before her death seems ominous. Yea, baby?
