Mem'ries...I don't have 'em

The other day I ran into someone who remembered me from kindergarten (perhaps because I look exactly the same??)... unfortunately his name didn't really register, and neither did his face. However, I do recall my kindergarten teacher. She had us learn the song Blowin' in the Wind, which I recall being convinced was a Civil War classic, before finding out it was a brand new song at the time!

Batting a Thousand, or Babs at BEA

I was registered to attend Book Expo at the Javits Center on Tuesday, May 25th. When I arrived I found out that the exhibitors would not be there until today, the 26th. So I and two friends took a $15 cab ride uptown to visit MOMA. And of course when we got there we found out that it's closed on Tuesdays. Wonderful!! After that, however the day improved. After a terrific lunch at Murals (in the Warwick Hotel), shopping at MOMA's bookstore and the Folk Art Museum store, we cabbed back down to the Javits Center, and lined up to see Barbra Streisand (yes!) who was there as the opening night keynote speaker. From the second row, we watched as she was being interviewed by Gayle King about her forthcoming book "My Passion for Design." Apparently her passions include the colors burgundy and pink, couches, dolls, decorating in general, and her dog (who was there). Her lack of passion includes the colors orange and brown, and modern architecture (not for her). She was funny, regal and very, very blonde. But still the same superstar we know and er, love. Gayle King? Not so much.
