Iris Murdoch's first novel
Under the Net (c1954), about a charming slacker, Jake Donaghue, who gets into all sorts of (mis)adventures; and
Mansfield Park, another of
Jane Austen's greatest hits. As you know, Jane is
Jo Rowling's favorite writer, and a seminal influence on many an esteemed scribe.
